Black Eagle, known to some as 'the bird that never sits down' soars over the foothills of the Annapurna Massif in Nepal

Goddess of the Harvests, Annapurna

A  Black Eagle, known to some as 'the bird that never sits down', soars over the foothills of the  Annapurna massif, or himal in Himalayan Nepal. This part of the Himalayas is home to the worlds tenth tallest mountain, Annapurna I, it was originally climbed in 1950 making it the first Eight-thousander  (mountains over 8000m high) to be climbed. This was achieved by French climber s Louis Lachenal and Maurice Herzog, who wrote a book about it called 'Annapurna ' . It's also one of the most dangerous climbs in the world, in the autumn of 1999 there were 106  climbers who reached the summit, 54 never came back, whether they got to the top or not. Deadly Annapurna indeed! The name Annapurna is  Sanskrit language that is generally translated as Goddess of the harvests, to Europeans that would sound like Demeter the Greek Goddess of the harvest, but it isn't. The Annapurna trekking circuit is claimed to be one of the worlds best, and I can believe it, you also have the Annapurna sanctuary , a high glacial basin with multiple eco-systems is sacred to the Gurung people and home to many deities  including Shiva. It wasn't even visited by westerners until 1956.  I found this Himalayan landscape quadtypch one of the hardest landscape paintings I've done.
